Set-up and lumber delivery for cutting high posted, "off the grid", cape.
One of my most enjoyable types of work is to design, cut, and erect a nice timber frame. I love the
smell of fresh hemlock, building a house in a similar methodology to a fine piece of furniture, and
finally seeing a bare frame sitting proudly on a site. I received a delivery of hemlock last friday, mostly
6x6 and 6x7, and my brother helped me organize and stack it to get ready for a month or so of
lay-out and cutting. I have my fingers crossed for moderate and dry weather in Nov and early Dec. I
have the shop drawings, which will inform the cutting lay-out, a little more than half complete and
will mostly work on them on frosty mornings and wet days to stay ahead of the actual cutting.
Here's a levelled spot to assemble the deck when it's cut, and a place to work and stack lumber
...and here's the lumber on the truck, landing a bit differently than we planned, and stacked
neatly.
Shop drawings for deck frame.
